Aging Together's Dementia Education Initiative

Aging Together is committed to fostering communities that provide essential support for individuals living with dementia by offering educational programs tailored for everyone. These programs are designed to be concise, lasting 1-2 hours, to honor everyone's time. Whether you are an individual seeking to assist someone with dementia, a business encouraging staff involvement, or simply someone who encounters individuals displaying cognitive challenges, these programs are meant for you. The more people who understand and are able to identify the symptoms and behaviors associated with dementia in our region, the more effectively we can provide the necessary support.

DEMENTIA FRIENDs - for individuals

Dementia Friends is offered quarterly, and usually virtually, by Aging Together for individuals. The goal is to share information about what dementia is, how it might be manifested by a person living with dementia, and how you might be able to help or communicate with someone you encounter who has dementia. We encourage everyone in our 5-county region to become a Dementia Friend which will support the growing population of those living with dementia, and those who care for them.

DEMENTIA FRIENDLY WORKPLACES- For Businesses

Dementia Friendly Workplace training is an initiative of Aging together as part of a greater movement both in Virginia and the country. Aging Together works under the umbrella of Dementia Friendly Central Virginia of which we are a member. Dementia Friendly Communities helps your business be comfortable and prepared when those living with dementia visit their organization. In return you open up your business to a greater population who may find it difficult to participate in their communities otherwise, and so have a propensity to stay home along with their caregivers. It's a win-win.

The Dementia Friendly Initiative is intended for any businesses or organizations in the community that are open to the public. Typical sessions last about an hour. Join the movement!
