The Person-Centered Trauma-Informed (PCTI) Framework offers new insights for multicultural family caregivers. Lily Liu will share her experience applying PCTI principles during her own caregiver journey caring for her late parents who experienced trauma as refugees during the Chinese Civil War.
Lily Liu was the family caregiver for more than a decade for her mother who had Parkinson’s Disease and dementia. As a 1.5-generation immigrant family caregiver, Lily highlights how cultural heritage and a multicultural identity have a significant impact on the caregiving journey as well as on the physical, financial, emotional and mental health of a family caregiver.

This presentation will recognize the challenges and rewards that family caregivers experience. This presentation will also identify individual and societal opportunities to extend caregiver well-being.
Presented by Christine Jensen, Director of Health Services Research at the Riverside Martha W. Goodson Center
Christine holds a Ph.D. in Human Development & Family Studies from the University of Delaware, specializing in adult development and aging. She is active in several aging-focused organizations, including the Gerontological Society of America and the Southern Gerontological Society, where she served as Past President and was named 2015 Applied Gerontologist of the Year. Christy has authored two book chapters and 17 peer-reviewed articles focused on caregiving, dementia care, workforce training, and community needs assessments. Her current work centers on person- and family-centered caregiver training and supporting health systems in achieving age-friendly care.

In her role Renee serves on multiple boards and organizations serving older adults and youth. She facilitates the Mental Health Collaborative and the Mental Health School Coalition and serves on the Rappahannock Roundtable. Renee has also worked as an Emergency Mental Health Clinician and Suicide Prevention Specialist with Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services and a volunteer EMT. She is a current board member of Mental Health America of Virginia, and Aging Together. Renee holds a degree in psychology from William and Mary and a Master of Education in Counseling from UVA.

attending one free informal session where they will learn tips on how to identify and help someone with dementia. Let’s
make our entire region Dementia Friendly!
